It is a pretty common experience to move from place to place. What is perhaps less common is moving to four different states within the span of 10 years. I want to share my experiences of how I came from growing up in Hawaii to moving to Arizona then Utah and then finally landing in the Bay Area.
Why all this moving? Education!
I learned when I was younger that education was important and that motivated me to continue pursuing it. Each step of my educational journey was associated with a move to a different island or state. Each time was an adjustment to the geographic and cultural traits of that location. Each move had challenges but brought me closer to my goal of a doctorate and I eventually got it!
However, the more interesting process was the lessons learned on the way. I transformed from someone who was closeted and sheltered to someone who uses the experience of meeting diverse groups of people for the betterment of all.
